CCHE2D is an integrated software package developed at the National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering, the University of Mississippi. It is a general numerical model for two-dimensional simulation and analyses of free surface flows and the associated processes. Water flows in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, estuaries and coasts including floods, dam break flows can be simulated. The processes of sediment transport, morphologic change, pollutant transport and water quality, etc. dominated by water flows can also be studied using modules of this model. These sub-models will be introduced in separated pages of this web-site. The following figures are examples of the model’s applications:

The Old River Complex is a control structure separating the Mississippi River and the Atchafalaya River. The flow field near ORC affects the sediment transport and navigation. CCHE2D has been used to simulate the flow of the Mississippi River and the flow diverged to the Atchafalaya River controlled by ORC

Simulation of turbulent flows in natural channels with many river training spur dikes.

Overland flow is one of the major causes to soil erosion and soil loss from agriculture landscapes.  CCHE2D can simulate detailed rain-runoff process and distributions of the resulted overland flow in a watershed with many sub-watersheds, lakes gullies and rivers.

This video shows am example of a flow simulation in a large reservoir with complex shape. The period of the flood entering into the reservoir was slightly longer than one month.
