中国科学院南海海洋研究所热带海洋环境国家重点实验室,通过温度、盐度垂直分布图、T-S 点聚图检验，表明观测期间探头及仪器的稳定性和数据的精确度良好。经T-S 点聚图同南海的历史观测资料对比，资料是准确的、可靠的。,自2004年至今，南海北部海洋观测开放航次由中科院南海海洋研究所负责实施，调查船为“实验3”号科考船，调查海区为南海北部海区及西部局部海区，位于北纬18° 00′N-23° 00′ N，东经 110° 00′E-120° 00′E 及北纬12° 15′N-18° 00′ N，东经110° 30′E-112° 25′E 范围内。
南海北部海洋观测开放航次大面观测温盐数据集包含站位号，经纬度，测量时间，深度，温度和盐度等记录。
