NashBasri提出的线性扰动模型(LPM),降低了对线性的依赖,增加了对观测资料的季节特性的依赖。

该模型假定在任何一年里的每一天如果降雨或其它输入精确地遵循它的季节期望值,则流量过程线也类似地遵循它自己的季节期望值;在另外一些年里,输入与输出与它们各自的季节期望值的离差符合线性关系。在具有高度季节性的流域上,从原始系列中抽去季节均值将除去系统中的大部分非线性因素,因而,离差之间的线性关系的假定条件容易满足。

另外,离差对于季节均值来说趋于减小,且不管什么季节,离差的量级几乎均等,这种特性为系统的线性化提供了十分有利的条件。
