Basic Information

Hong Kong and other cities in China are suffering from a serious air pollution problem. Public awareness of ambient air quality has been growing since poor air quality can cause severe health problems. Monitoring of air quality is probably an effective step to mitigating air pollution. In order to provide real time air pollutants concentrations to the public, we design and develop the TouchAir App to propose the environmental way of life.

TouchAir is developed by Prof. HUANG Bo and his research team. It is an interesting, practical and elegant smartphone App for users to access real time air pollutant concentrations with high accuracy at any location in China, and health risk index can be calculated on the fly. In this App, we have devised a spatial-temporal geo-statistical model that utilizes MODIS data, AERONET data and meteorological parameters to improve the estimation accuracy. This App can support numerous applications, for instance, routing planning for outdoor activities with minimal exposure to air pollution and public health correlational studies.

There are four core functions: basic inquiry, health monitor, route planning and image sharing. The detail function descriptions are as follows.

a)  Basic Inquiry: users can use this function to query the air pollutants concentrations of any location at any time in China.

b)  Health Monitor: This function could provide pedometer and PM2.5 exposures to help the users to monitor their health condition.

c)  Monitoring stations distribution.

d)  PM2.5 Prediction
