HOAR FROST

A deposit of ICE (hoar crystals) that generally assumes the form of scales, needles, feathers, or fans and that forms on OBJECTs the SURFACEs of which are sufficiently cooled, usually by nocturnal radiation, to bring about deposition of the water vapour contained in the ambient AIR; hoar frost.
