潮汐变形

从全球范围来看，潮汐现象首先是地球的变形现象。假如地球本是个正球体，那么，它要在自转过程中，由正球体变成较为明显的扁球体；又要在公转过程中，由正球体变成不很明显的长球体。前者是永久性的变形，与潮汐现象无涉；后者是周期性变形，称为潮汐变形。
