    式中，是大气层中碳的数量；和分别是表层和深层海水中碳的数量；和是第陆地地区的每单位面积中活的植物和死的土壤微生物生物量中碳含量；，，分别是由于工业排放和人类对植被和土壤影响导致的流入大气层中的碳；是第陆地地区的大小；是陆地地区的数量。
