冰川表面能量-物质平衡模型可用下面的公式描述:

\( M=\int(\frac{Q_m}{L_m}(1-f)+P_s+\frac{Q_E}{L})dt \)

其中M(kg·m-2)为冰川的比物质平衡,如果水的密度\( ρ_w \) = 1000 kg·m-3,则m/\( ρ_w \)的单位为m w.e.,即常用的物质平衡;\( Q_m \)为冰川表面消融耗热;\( f \)为冰川融水滞留在冰川上的量值百分比,即融水再冻结量;\( P_s \)为降雪量,换算成雪深(水当量);\( Q_E \)为升华或蒸发耗热;\( L_m \)为冰的融化潜热(3.34x105j·kg-1);\( L \)为升华或蒸发潜热(\( L_s \)=2.834x106j·kg-1\( L_v \)=2.5x106j·kg-1).\( Q_m \)由冰川表面的能量平衡方程得到,

\( S_{in}(1-α)+L_{in}-L_{out}+Q_H+Q_E+Q_P=Q_M+Q_G \)

式中,\( Q_G \)为冰川表面以下的热传输项;\( S_{in} \)为入射短波辐射;\( α \)为反照率;\( L_{in} \)为向下长波辐射;\( L_{out} \)为向上长波辐射;\( Q_H \)\( Q_E \)分别是冰雪面-大气间的感热和潜热交换;\( Q_P \)是降雨供热.上述各项均以表面获得热量为正,失去热量为负,单位为W/m-2.只有当表面的能量通量为正且表面温度达到融点时,消融才发生。
