Detailed Description

Quoted from: https://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/ice-csim/distribution/csim5.0/

CSIM5 is the latest version of the NCAR Community Sea Ice Model that was released with CCSM3.0 on 23 June 2004. It is the result of a community effort to develop a portable, efficient sea ice model that can be run coupled in a global climate model or uncoupled as a stand-alone ice model. This web page provides the files necessary to run the uncoupled version of CSIM. If you have already downloaded CCSM3.0, you already have all of the source code and input files to run CSIM5 uncoupled.

CSIM5 uncoupled provides a means of running the sea ice model independent of the other CCSM components. It reads in atmospheric and ocean forcing, which eliminates the need for the flux coupler, and the atmosphere, land and ocean data models. It can be run on a reduced number of processors, or without MPI (Message Passing Interface) for researchers without access to these computer resources.

The physics in the uncoupled ice model are identical to those in the ice model used in the fully coupled system and are described in the Scientific Description document provided below.

SOURCE CODE

Download the CSIM5 source code. It is available as a gzipped tar file. Follow the instructions in the CSIM5 User's Guide to "unzip" and "untar" the file. [CSIM download] (0.17 Mb compressed)(Sept 2004, CVS Tag csim5_0_3)

INPUT DATA

This forcing is year 1997 of NCEP state variables, MXA precipitation and ISCCPM radiative fluxes. These datasets are meant for testing the model and are not the best observational data for research. Users are advised not to publish results based on these datasets.

ATMOSPHERIC FORCING DATA

This forcing is year 1997 of NCEP state variables, MXA precipitation and ISCCPM radiative fluxes. These datasets are meant for testing the model and are not the best observational data for research. Users are advised not to publish results based on these datasets.

PLOTS OF UNCOUPLED SIMULATION

These are plots of a 5 year simulation using the one year of atmosperic forcing data released with this model. Resolution is gx3v5, and initial conditions are set in the ice model [plots]
